LORD OF THE TRIDENT - CHAINS OF FIRE (Junko Johnson Records)

                               (Review by Officer Nice)

What the f*ck? What is this here? I see a nice digi-pack that breathes all clichés we know from Metal, so far so good and then I see the band picture that really pisses me off! How ridicule can you be nowadays? Are you guys laughing with Metal or what? Don’t the youngsters know anything about the dress code of true Heavy Metal? Jesus, Satan, whoever….  Even Stryper did better in the Eighties! Another thing that annoys me is a quick note on the booklet that forbids the reviewers to use a certain name because of the risk of getting sued… What the hell is this all about and who the fuck is the one that threatens to sue you? And these guys are calling themselves the MOST Metal band on earth???? Who are these guys so I can’t beat the sh** out of them…I’m in a bad mood, a very bad mood! The music is hopefully much better….

And yes, this first track really sounds great and isn’t totally not what I expected. I was expecting some ridiculous over the top Metal, with tons of clichés, trying to make Metal some kind of joke. It’s not, this is awesome Melodic Hard Rock / Heavy Metal, from the kind I didn’t hear in a long time! This band sounds professional, contains a superb singer who performs songs that keep on playing in my mind! I hear fantastic leads, the first songs sound as good Metal track should sound! Triumph, Dokken, Manowar, Savatage, Witchfynde, Reverence, Firewolfe, TNT…. This band blows me away!

“Skyforce”, “Face Of The Enemy”, “Foggy Harbor Town” and “The Enforcer” are tracks that will convince tons of fans of traditional Heavy Metal. The semi-ballad “Beauty of the blade” proves how professional this formation really is! My favorite track is without any doubt “Followers Of Set”. Singer Fan VonWrathenstein really contains  a good, I would even dare to say Godlike, clear voice and has lots of possibilities with it. I adore his timbre, the moments he goes higher and higher, the emotions he can add to his vocal lines! This lad can easily sing in big AOR or Hard Rock bands, no doubts about it! Guitar players ‘Asian Metal’ and ‘Killius Maximus’ show all their skills on this album and believe me they both impress! In riffs and leads I was thrilled! This band should receive attention from big labels! It’s fantastic Metal, heading from the US, or what did you expect?

But why the hell all this fakeness, the search of looking so absurd? Okay, we shouldn’t take Heavy Metal always that serious but guys, was this really necessary? You write and perform good Heavy Metal so why? I’m even quite sure this is a fantastic live band as well, looking at some pictures. A track like “The Metal Sea” would  be a perfect track to play for drunk Metal fans but a good listener hears also great leads and good vocal performances in it as well. If the band wanted my attention, goal succeeded, but I was close to throw this one in my garbage can at once… Take my advice: Throw away those foolish names, burn these dull masks and do what you’re best in; playing first class Heavy Metal! And if the masks or whatever are needed: create some matchless ones like Crimson Glory did for example at their debut album!

Don’t make the same mistake I did and don’t look at this CD, just listen to it. For once I advise you to surf to the band’s website, push the button of the Merchandise, order this album and close the website at once! Listen to it and take a look after the first listen! You will forgive them because this is a surprising good US Metal band with a unique album! It’s certainly not the MOST Metal band on earth, but they are fantastic! I hope the band will send their debut for review as well. And by the way; their website is http://www.lordsofthetrident.com. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

My Points: 85 / 100
