DOOMOCRACY - THE END IS WRITTEN (Steel Gallery Records)
This Greek five-piece band came about in the Summer of 2011 when they first rehearsed together. Their stated ambition was to follow the pathways of Doom Metal grandmasters Candlemass, Black Sabbath, Solitude Aeturnus and stuff. After only three months of intensive training, they had 4 songs composed which proves that they were incredibly driven. For a new band it’s always advisable to work as hard as possible for what you want to achieve, the only thing missing back then was the name of the band. Finally they have chosen the appropriate name Doomocracy, with emphasis on the word ‘doom’. After more than one year of hard labour, the band composed all of the tracks of their debut album of which the title would be “The End Is Written”.
The pre-productions took place, also Doomocracy started to look out for a proper place to record the album. They entered "Mad Hat Music" studio in Heraklion Greece on July 2013, the recording duties (by sound engineer Nikos Vogiatzakis) ended sometime in September 2013. In Uppsala Sweden, “The End Was Written” has been mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Evergrey, Dimmu Borgir a.o.), halfway October 2013 all was done and the band was wildly excited about the end result. Mainman of Tailor Maid MusicProduction named Peter In De Betou (Bathory, Amon Amarth, Entombed, Morgana Lefay, Dream Evil and numberless others) lent his expert knowledge in the mastering duties.
The whole album was ready to show to the world of Metal on September the 21th.through Arkeyn Steel Records. As always, CEO Kostas Athanasoglou gives Metal music the necessary appreciation the way it should be… great job brother !
The dark and sinister looking cover artwork looks fantastic to me, about the music Doomocracy deliver across the entire album I can only but extremely satisfied. Also in the Doom Metal genre you have many subdivisions, in terms of this band… well, they bring a mixture of Epic Doom and Traditional Heavy Metal. And believe me on my heart, the result is ingenious. Michael Stravakakis comes to my ears with a reasonably sharp tone, very clear… damn good singer anyway. Angelo Tzanis and Harry Dokos’ way of delivering the guitar works can be highlighted with a frame as quite technical, heavily loaded as a ten ton truck. And “The End Is Written” gets an extra heavy dimension by adding an ingenious combination of excellent drums kicked out by Minas Vasilakis and bass works delivered by Manolis Schizakis. After a few songs, it was clear that Doomocracy is a band with lots of great inspiration and determination, just listen to it and feel the magic of a great form of musical mutual togetherness.
Listening to the title track, the tackling of the guitar riffs are constantly changing, also the rhythms to change consistently and the solo’s are finger scorching/fully melodic, fantastic all the way out. Also the vocals overpower my inner self… damn, what a great composition ! ‘The Cellaphais Curse’ and ‘Faceless’ are offered at a slow pace, still the band knows how to impress again. The tempo is a bit intensified on both songs ‘Emissary Of Vengeance’ and ‘Hanging Puppet’ and I continue to listen further with profound appreciation. Frontman Michael once again let hear his top-notch voice during the last and longest track called ‘Sins’. A song which shows the true nature of the band, high class Epic Heavy/Doom Metal.
Broadly, Doomocracy’s debut album “The End Is Written” sounds like the good old days of Solitude Aeturnus mainly, also fans of early Memory Garden, Argus, Krux and the mighty Candlemass are due to place an order for sure. I’m very excited about these Greeks way of Doom Metal… brilliant ! Band info at: http://www.doomocracy.com/ https://www.facebook.com/Doomocracy . To order, use THIS link.
