WÜLFHOOK - THE IMPALER

(Divebomb Records)

Review by Stefan

Detroit, Michigan USA is the place where this five-headed act comes from, Wülfhook was formed in 2009 and recorded 3 demo’s. One of these three efforts called “Sacrifice” which has led to a record deal with Divebomb Records, the place to be for all those hooked on US Metal music in general… have a look at: http://www.divebombrecords.com/site/releases/ It’s good to know that a band like Wülfhook teamed up with this label, both camps have a strong connection with US Power Metal and that’s very positive with an eye to the future. In contrast to what many arque, US Metal is far from dead, spread the word Stefan from Metal To Infinity Webzine Belgium said that ! Following the US Metal movement since the very early 80s I can say you all, with lots of certainty, this genre has never let me down through all these years. Always busy cruising down the Internet to meet some new, interesting bands, well I found Wülfhook and I'm blazing enthusiast !

Underground US Power Metal at its best - that’s my way to describe this fantastic band. Their style spans the period from the beginning of the 80s up until the early 90s era. All the wonderful bands that I have met during this period are gouged into my heart and soul forevermore. My passion for US Metal started at the beginning of the 80s and I won’t let it go as long as I live !

Wülfhook meets all my requirements relating to excellent US Power Metal. Killer drums and devastating bass lines, full melodic-shred type of guitar riffs/leads and last but hell not least… their singer can be defined in one word, OUTSTADING ! Loud, clear and very strong standard vocals but when this guy gives heed to the high pitching shrieks, I’m overwhelmed all the way out ! A mixture of James Rivera (Helstar), Michael Degrena (Order Of Nine), Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer/Satan’s Host/Titan Force), Sean Peck (Cage/Death Dealer), Dane Cook (Powerlord), Michael Grant (ex-Onward/Crescent Sheild/Legend Maker/New Eden) a.o. what a great singer – what a great band ! “The Impaler” by Wülfhook will be, more than likely, the biggest candidate to end up on the first place of my favourite 2015 album list.

While I’m cruising through the full tracklist (10 songs) of Wülfhook’s new album, my mind goes back to the good old days of US Power Metal in the vein of Jag Panzer’s “Ample Destruction”, Oracle’s “As Darkness Reings”, New Eden’s “Through The Make Believe”, Malice’s “In The Beginning…”, “Heart Of A Killer” by Winters Bane and Metal Church’s legendary debut ! The sound quality reigns supreme and the songs puts me in higher realms, with the volume of my amplifier reduced to the maximum, I’m having the time of my life. Nine of the compositions are their own creations, last one is a cover track from Van Halen entitled ‘Atomic Punk’. Would I consider to claim that the version of Wülfhook is better? Yes I will, with all do respect to the address of Van Halen !

An album made of this way caliber should yield the band international fame, that’s what I think! They got me by the throat right from the start and are able to keep up the pleasure until the last second. Wülfhook don’t follow the mainstream side of the road, they’re here with a killer force type of Traditional Power Metal music, pure American style ! Order “The Impaler” at: http://tribunalrecords.bigcartel.com/ and be the owner of something REALLY GOOD !! More info on this almighty band, check: https://www.facebook.com/wulfhookband
