Review by Nathan McLeod

In March 2015, Dordrecht, Netherlands 'female-fronted' thrash metal artist 'X-Tinxion' released a 3-track EP entitled 'Severed From Heaven'. Self-released as a 'promotional' digi-pack CD, a preview to an upcoming full-length 'X-Tinxion' CD.  Not sure if the 'less is more' approach was their intention? IMO, they didn't have to!   Enough cannot be said that already has been regarding 'Monica Jannsen's' very agile-vast-wide range of vocals. They're simply amazing & brilliant, truly talented & gifted! Very hard to make a comparison to Monica's vocal style or style(s), as for I believe other 'female-fronted' bands will be compared to Monica's vast vocal ability. If I had to hint, first thing coming to mind type scenario, that would be of Sentinel Beast's 'Debbie Gunn'.

X-Tinxion's style of thrash metal is very 'melodic', even go as far as saying 'methodic'. The production of 'Severed From Heaven' is very crisp, clean, & precise. Extremely professional, structured very nicely. The tempo is a bit slow starting off with the title track, but does pick up, picks up it's intensity into 'The Divine', & moreso with 'Narrow Path". Left me as a 'listener' with the feeling of "where's the rest?" & "I want more". The lyrics & music were 'exceptionally' written. I hear various styles & influences in X-Tinxion. Remembrances of the James Murphy era with Testament. Conrad, Sepp, Haico, & Peter ALL have done an excellent job as musicians thus far on 'Severed To Heaven'. Very tight & well orchestrated!

With the additional vocals by George Oosthoek on 'The Divine', fits very well, blends right in unison alongside Monica's.None the less, I feel the 'less is more' approach was achieved, which is not an 'easy' accomplishment. Cannot wait to hear 'X-Tinxion's' debut full-length CD. Keep up the 'impressive' work. So far I'd say there's nothing lacking with 'Severed To Heaven'. I do though hope with 'X-Tinxion's' upcoming CD it does keep packing more of a punch after punch, track after track?

A recent live clip of 'Narrow Path' can seen on 'X-Tinxion's' YouTube channel. Crushing! Lastly, a CD review of 'X-Tinxion - Act The Injured Innocent' can be read right here from 'Metal To Infinity' official homepage: http://www.metaltoinfinity.be/CDREVIEWS_2014/Xtinxion_Acttheinjuredinnocent.html
